not so girlie girl

I love cozy, fun bedding during the winter months.
This is a crazy, fun combo for any girls room.

zzz

I am a huge fan of "white."
This room is so simple and clean.
They must have a messy playroom somewhere else.

imagination

My amazing sister Lisa's amazing art work!

Insects at Home
The Miniature Insect Dioramas of Lisa Wood (my sister!)

Lisa Wood's fantastical dioramas feature anthropomorphic depictions of insects in domestic, story book recreations: climbing ladders, reading books, holding tea parties and socializing in their secret, everyday lives hidden from prying human eyes.
This collection of dioramas is made with real insects in a natural setting made with both natural and man-made "props". Sealed in a glass and wood box measuring 2.5"x 2.5"x 3.5" for the smaller dioramas and 4 3/4"x 2.5"x 3.5" for the larger ones.

animal crackers

I saw a kid eating Animal Crackers yesterday and it stopped me in my tracks.
My memories came flooding in.
I loved the string on the box and trying to guess what animal I had in my hand.
It is a shame Nabisco puts so much CRAP in them. You can make your own organic ones.

I love the simplicity of this cake. So sweet.

lincoln logs

One of my all time favorite childhood toys.
John Lloyd Wright, son of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, put these on the market in 1916. Wright was inspired by his father's design for Tokyo’s earthquake-proof Imperial Hotel, which he saw while it was under construction.

paint by number

Paint-by-number are a fun thing you and your kids can
look for at yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores.
Just add them to the wall as you find them.
Cover the wall. Have some fun.
The sillier the better.

red rocker

This room works for so many reasons.
Fun wall paper and neutral gray walls.
Colorful rug, the hide-away under the bed and the classic Eames rocker.
Good job parents!

ping pong

If you have room in the garage or outside, get a Ping Pong table!
Ping Pong is so much fun!
Just saying it is fun!

bang a drum

I saw this drum in the window at Past Perfect on Union Street the other day.
What a great end table this would make.

globe lights

There is something magical about a globe light.
I love mine (I have two).
Your kids will love one in his or her room.
Leave it on for them at night.
They will dream of far away places and someday go there!

old school

Keep your eye out for old school desks.
Much more interesting than store bought.

simple

The artwork is hung low. The unused door has become a bulletin board
that changes all the time. I like the dark window trim.
Tree branches are fun and bring the outside in.

The pale pink is soothing in doesn't scream little girls room.
It is not cluttered with gobs of hideous plastic toys.
These photos are from the New York Times.

red lockers

The chalk paint wall is a winner in this Real Simple photo.
The lockers, the mismatched bedding, the dark floor,
the old tool box for toys are great.

maps

I am a huge fan of using maps in playrooms and bedrooms.
It adds a lot of color and is also a wonderful teaching tool.

The map, fun bedspread and interesting bed frame all work together.

This is a photo of Julianne Moore's kids room.
She has awesome taste.

I love this room.
